About this event

Becoming a member of the Capitol Circle means taking pride in supporting your local arts community and commitment to the well-being of the Capitol Theatre. 1948—Michael Powell, Emeric Pressburger, directors—starring Moira Shearer, Anton Walbrook Hans Christian Andersen’s dark fairy tale “The Red Shoes” did double duty in the 1948 film of the same name by The Archers (the producer-writer-director team of Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger): it provided the storyline for the ballet creation featured in the movie, and it also suggested the plot for the work as a whole. Ballerina Moira Shearer made her feature film debut, performing alongside other leading dancers of the Forties. And, by the end of The Red Shoes, the titular footwear have become a character in their own right. The movie has long been a favourite of balletomanes and cinéastes alike. The Capitol Theatre welcomes individuals with disabilities to attend performances and other events at our facility. We are committed to providing accessible services in a manner that maintains the dignity and independence of all while providing equality of access and integration. The Capitol Theatre wishes to acknowledge the original caretakers of this land: the Wendake-Nionwentsio, the Mississauga, the Anishinabewaki, and many other nations–recorded and unrecorded. This theatre has a long history, but there is a much longer history in this region and we can all do a better job of recognizing that history. Open one hour prior to all live performances. Closed on statutory holidays.
