About this event

Becoming a member of the Capitol Circle means taking pride in supporting your local arts community and commitment to the well-being of the Capitol Theatre. 1915—Charlie Chaplin, director—starring Charlie Chaplin, Edna Purviance, Lloyd Bacon Charlie Chaplin created the costume for the Tramp on the spur of the moment for a 1914 Mabel Normand short. On his way to wardrobe, he decided that he “wanted everything to be a contradiction: the pants baggy, the coat tight, the hat small and the shoes large.” With the addition of a small mustache, an iconic character (“the little fellow”, as Chaplin called him) was born. The Tramp appeared in a couple of dozen short films before 1915’s two-reeler The Tramp, written and directed by Chaplin, in which his character is displayed in more emotional depth. This silent film will be accompanied live by VFF favourite, pianist Jordan Klapman. The Capitol Theatre welcomes individuals with disabilities to attend performances and other events at our facility. We are committed to providing accessible services in a manner that maintains the dignity and independence of all while providing equality of access and integration. The Capitol Theatre wishes to acknowledge the original caretakers of this land: the Wendake-Nionwentsio, the Mississauga, the Anishinabewaki, and many other nations–recorded and unrecorded. This theatre has a long history, but there is a much longer history in this region and we can all do a better job of recognizing that history. Open one hour prior to all live performances. Closed on statutory holidays.
