About this event

Becoming a member of the Capitol Circle means taking pride in supporting your local arts community and commitment to the well-being of the Capitol Theatre. 1976—Brian De Palma, director—starring Sissy Spacek, John Travolta, Piper Laurie Brian De Palma’s Carrie was the first screen adaptation of a Stephen King book—of his first published novel, in fact—and it is still considered one of the very best. The film (marking its 50th anniversary this year) established its American director as a filmmaker of prominence. Both Sissy Spacek (in her breakout role as Carrie) and Piper Laurie (as her religious fanatic mother) earned Oscar nominations (a rare thing for a horror movie). Carrie also introduced Amy Irving and P.J. Soles to the screen and gave Nancy Allen and John Travolta their first significant movie roles. The film’s climactic prom scene (featuring Carrie in a now iconic pink prom gown) is a De Palma tour de force. The Capitol Theatre welcomes individuals with disabilities to attend performances and other events at our facility. We are committed to providing accessible services in a manner that maintains the dignity and independence of all while providing equality of access and integration. The Capitol Theatre wishes to acknowledge the original caretakers of this land: the Wendake-Nionwentsio, the Mississauga, the Anishinabewaki, and many other nations–recorded and unrecorded. This theatre has a long history, but there is a much longer history in this region and we can all do a better job of recognizing that history. Open one hour prior to all live performances. Closed on statutory holidays.
