About this event
Becoming a member of the Capitol Circle means taking pride in supporting your local arts community and commitment to the well-being of the Capitol Theatre. 1961—Walt Disney Productions—starring Rod Taylor, J. Pat O’Malley, Betty Lou Gerson Disney’s 101 Dalmatians was adapted from a 1956 children’s novel by Dodie Smith. It was made at a time when the future of animated features at the studio was in jeopardy: Disney’s 1959 Sleeping Beauty had been unsuccessful at the box office. However, the animation department was able to produce the film on a modest budget—partly by Xeroxing the artists’ drawings onto the animation cells rather than having them inked on by hand. Dalmatians became one of the highest-grossing animated films of all time. Its iconic Disney villainess Cruella de Vil was reputedly an amalgam of Bette Davis, Rosalind Russell and Tallulah Bankhead. The Capitol Theatre welcomes individuals with disabilities to attend performances and other events at our facility. We are committed to providing accessible services in a manner that maintains the dignity and independence of all while providing equality of access and integration. The Capitol Theatre wishes to acknowledge the original caretakers of this land: the Wendake-Nionwentsio, the Mississauga, the Anishinabewaki, and many other nations–recorded and unrecorded. This theatre has a long history, but there is a much longer history in this region and we can all do a better job of recognizing that history. Open one hour prior to all live performances. Closed on statutory holidays.
