About this event

Becoming a member of the Capitol Circle means taking pride in supporting your local arts community and commitment to the well-being of the Capitol Theatre. A beloved war memoir comes to life in the town where it was written. Based on Farley Mowat’s acclaimed war memoir, And No Birds Sang tells his autobiographical account of military service during World War II, as a member of the Hastings Prince Edward (or, affectionately, Hasty P’s) Regiment. In this touching world premiere, Mowat transforms from a young man into a combat veteran, alongside the devastating losses that come with wartime. Developed in our 2024 Creators’ Unit, this brand new production features live music and Foley sound, breathtaking performances, and a touching reflection on the sacrifices made by so many in our community. Dave Carley’s plays have had nearly 500 productions around the world, and he is a Governor General’s Award Nominee. “Carley is deservedly one of Canada's most frequently-produced playwrights, in no small part because he's an excellent storyteller."  - Plays International Shop, Dine & Show: explore downtown Port Hope, enjoy a meal, and see a show... and save 20%! Choose "Shop, Dine & Show" as your ticket type when you check out. The Capitol Theatre welcomes individuals with disabilities to attend performances and other events at our facility. We are committed to providing accessible services in a manner that maintains the dignity and independence of all while providing equality of access and integration. The Capitol Theatre wishes to acknowledge the original caretakers of this land: the Wendake-Nionwentsio, the Mississauga, the Anishinabewaki, and many other nations–recorded and unrecorded. This theatre has a long history, but there is a much longer history in this region and we can all do a better job of recognizing that history. Open one hour prior to all live performances. Closed on statutory holidays.
